Overview

Daniels Sharpsmart Canada Ltd. (DSCL) is a privately owned company who provide a complete direct sharps service to the USA, Canada, South Africa, UK and New Zealand markets, with services including the provision of the Daniels Sharpsmart System (collectors, accessories and washers), transportation of medical and sharps waste, and treatment and disposal of medical waste.

Responsibilities

Oversee service delivery of Daniels Sharpsmart Inc. containers in the Moncton, New Brunswick area which are used to transport medical waste between our associated health facilities and medical waste disposal plants. Trucks carry 26,000 pounds of weight or less and are MTO regulated

  • Competently perform pre-trip inspection, identifying minor and major defects, and reporting them to appropriate Daniels Management in a timely manner
  • Properly maintain vehicle cab; communicate requirements for maintenance if needed; diligently carryout Daniels commercial vehicle cleaning & disinfecting protocol on a daily basis
  • Maintains safe operation and clean appearance by complying with organization operational policies, procedures and standards, as well as local driving rules and regulations; cleans truck interior
  • Prepare truck for operation by inspecting general condition; validating adherence to road ability standards
  • Loads and unloads truck by placing and securing items in such a manner that prevents damage to small means of containment
  • Be knowledgeable and alert to non-compliant waste packages, such as obstructed or damaged containers, non-approved packages, and overweight containers, and labeling or packages that do not conform with Daniels standards
  • Delivers items by identifying destinations; establishing route; operating the truck; unloading items; maintaining schedule
  • Serve customers by understanding and resolving or forwarding complaints; adjusting orders while providing a high level of service
  • Accurately record quantity of items picked up and delivered.
  • Accurately record information on packing slip and manifest ensuring compliance with TDG Regulations
  • Ensure all issues, complaints, non-compliant packaging is consistently recorded on the driver communication forms provided to you.
  • Maintains delivery, truck, and driving records by obtaining receipt acknowledgments; recording tracking information; completing driver log and truck performance forms
  • Comply with all environmental & health and safety regulation
  • Ensure accurate completion of all paperwork manifests in accordance with all internal and external regulations
  • Inspects all waste at pick-up for packaging ensure adherence to compliance regulations
  • Completes all other duties required as requested by supervisor/management

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum valid class 3 or class 1 driver's license
  • A minimum of 6 months verifiable, related behind the wheel driving experience (within the last 36 months)
  • Clean 10 year CVOR and Driver’s Abstract (dated within last 30 days)
  • Bilingualism - ability to speak and understand both french and english 
  • Ability to establish rapport and maintain relationships with all customers
  • Ability to understand highway traffic and signals, respond to official questions, and be able to make legible entries on reports and records
  • Ability to drive the vehicle safely in accordance with all traffic regulations
  • Ability to complete compliance paperwork and all shipping documents/bill of ladings 
  • Ability to work flexible hours in order to complete routes in accordance with schedules
  • Ability to adhere to all internal policies, as well as all federal and provincial legislative requirements 
  • Ability and knowledge to safely load and properly block, brace, and secure the cargo
  • Ability to work early mornings and overtime as required
  • Pass a driver's road test or equivalent

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally working in confined spaces
  • Occasionally lifting, pushing pulling weights of sixty (60) pounds or more
  • Occasionally bending, twisting, and turning while lifting weights of less than fifty (50) pounds
  • Walking of two (2) or more miles per day
  • Standing for extended periods of time
  • Ability to recognize colors (red, green and amber) of traffic signals
